  
The Nursing Alumni Association was established to provide a means to network with the graduates of the Pittsburg State University nursing programs. All graduates become members and are handed their membership card as they leave the stage at the Pinning Ceremony. There are no dues; members who wish to do so contribute to the newsletter fund. The Nursing Alumni Association encourages graduates to join the PSU Alumni Association, and collaborates with that group to maintain current alumni records and coordinate alumni activities such as PSU Homecoming events. Nursing Alumni Association members volunteer to call nursing alumni during the annual PSU Alumni Association Phon-a thon.
The Nursing Alumni Association publishes a newsletter mailed to all nursing alumni several times a year. The newsletter includes news from alumni, an update on activities in the Department of Nursing, and information about upcoming events such as Homecoming events planned for nursing alumni or continuing nursing education programs jointly sponsored by the Nursing Alumni Association and the Department of Nursing. In 1995, the association co-sponsored a continuing nursing education workshop to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Department of Nursing. There were alumni present from almost every graduating class. The Nursing Alumni Association also nominates members for Outstanding Alumni. Over the years, five nursing alumni have been honored as Outstanding Alumni during Homecoming Festivities: Janet Houser Carter, Janice Jones, Sharon Bowling, Mary Carol Pomatto and Jane (Scalet) Scott.
The almost 2000 nursing alumni from the first class (1973) to the most recent (2005) may be found throughout the United States and in other countries. They are practicing in a wide variety of settings and roles. The Nursing Alumni Association and the Department of Nursing both like to know what is happening in the lives and work of the nursing alumni. Each newsletter contains a form for alumni to send updated information about themselves back to the association.
