Profile of the Department of Nursing

The Department of Nursing is one of fourteen departments in the College of Arts and Sciences. Seventy students are admitted each fall semester to the basic baccalaureate program. The nursing program is an upper division major which begins in the junior year and builds upon two years of general education courses. In addition to the approximately 140 students in the basic program, there are nearly 100 students who are registered nurses completing their B.S.N. degrees. The graduate program has 65 students enrolled. All nursing and pre-nursing majors are assigned a nursing faculty member as their academic advisor.

The Department of Nursing is committed to the University's mission with regard to teaching, scholarship and service. The culminating mission of the department is to produce a professional nurse who has the ability to utilize knowledge from general education courses, behavioral/natural sciences and nursing science to diagnose and treat human responses to actual or potential health problems.

Accreditation of the Department of Nursing

The baccalaureate program of the Department of Nursing is approved by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. The nursing program received initial accreditation by the National League for Nursing in 1975. The Baccalaureate Program was re-accredited for eight years, in 1989. The National League for Nursing will make a site visit to the Department of Nursing in march, 2000, to renew the MSN program for accreditation..
